Ice under blue sky

This week's theme in Photo theme for Thursday is "BLUE" (Sky, Water, Clothing, Flowers, Blue Berries, Drinks, Cars,...).
My contribution to this topic is from wintertime in Finland. Photograph was taken in a lovely sunny day in eastern Helsinki (Uutela to be more precise), when ice on Finnish Gulf was reflecting the blue sky.

Betula nana

Dwarf Birch (Betula nana)

Round 7 in ABC Wednesday has reached letter B.
My choice for the letter is Betula nana (which happens to be one kind of Birch).

Ecology description:
Betula nana subsp. nana. Canada (Baffin Island), Greenland, northern Europe (south to the Alps at high altitudes), northwestern Asia. Young twigs hairy, but without resin; leaves longer (to 20 mm), usually as long as broad.

Andromeda polifolia

ABC Wednesday started new (7th) round/season. I've done full round once (round 5) and took part in two others (rounds 4 and 6), but decided to give it one more round. This time I am trying to stick to theme, which is plants. If I can't find answer from plants, I will go for nature and Finnish landscapes.
My first entry for round 7 is Andromeda polifolia, commonly known as Bog-rosemary. Photograph was taken this summer in Salla, Lapland.

Winter in summertime

June 2009 was quite interesting, because we got few centimeters worth snow in beginning of a month (in Kuusamo, Finland). I thought that this would be nice response to 'Two 4 Tuesday' challenge, where the topic is 'Winter - Summer'.

Heinäkuu Hakaniemessä

Kesäaamu Hakaniemen torilla

Heinäkuun kuva Hakaniemen torista aamulla on pitkälti samanlainen kuin kesäkuussakin. Kesäkuussa kuvassa olleet rullakot olivat kuitenkin jo poissa ja kuorma-autokaan ei ole aivan yhtä hallitseva, mutta se peittää kuitenkin kuvan oikeasta laidasta kaiken mielenkiintoisen.
Mikäli tuo kuorma-auto on vielä elokuussa samalla paikalla, niin lupaan tehdä elokuun kuvan oheen jonkinlaisen kuvasarjan torin muista maisemista aamulla.
